Animal Control Officer

PO Box 715
AuSable Forks, NY 12912

Phone: (w) 518-728-6100

Responsibilities

The duties of the Animal Control Officer are to enforce the laws and ordinances of the Town of Black Brook relating to dogs running at large, the licensing of dogs, impounding of unlicensed dogs and investigation of complaints relative thereto.

The Animal Control Officer is also responsible for handling dog bites. A report is received from the Department of Public Health and the Animal Control Officer contacts the animal owner to ensure that rabies vaccinations are up-to-date and follows up in 10 days.

New York State Law requires all dogs to be licensed in the Town of Black Brook as well as to be up to date with their rabies vaccinations.

It is especially important that dogs be licensed. There is a nominal fee. If your dog happens to get loose and is found by the Animal Control Officer, it is possible to look up the dog’s license at the Town Hall and locate the owner prior to impounding the dog.

All dogs found running at large in the Town of Black Brook are taken to Elmore SPCA Inc., 556 Telegraph Road, Peru, NY 12972, Phone: 518 643-2451.

For issues relating to wild animals please call DEC at 518-897-1291
